The idea for the present volume arose at the ninth International Congress of Lusitanists (Discoveries and Utopias: The Diversity of Lusophone Countries) in Vienna in September 2011, in a sub-session entitled Poetry of the Third Space: Contemporary Lusophone Poetry. The articles gathered in this volume reflect on a crucial term of postcolonial studies and the spatial turn, the epo-nymous «third space». This term, coined by Homi Bhabha and often used quite generally as an umbrella term, serves here as a heuristic point of departure to analyse the modelling of space in poetry in the 20th and 21st century.
A ideia do presente volume nasceu durante o IX Congresso de Lusitanistas de Alemanha (Descobertas e utopias: a diversidade dos países de língua portuguesa) em Viena em setembro de 2011, na seção intitulada Poesia do terceiro espaço – lírica lusófona contemporânea. Os artigos reunidos neste volume refletem um termo crucial para os estudos pós-colonias, o epônimo «terceiro espaço». Cunhado por Homi Bhabha e frequentemente usado em sentido abrangente, o termo serve como ponto de partida heurístico para analisar a ideia de espaço na poesia dos séculos XX e XII .
