Einjährige Europa-Gastprofessur “Portugal” 2015/2016 an der Universität des Saarlandes

Die Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken wurde 1948 bewusst als „europäische Universität“ gegründet. Einer ihrer Schwerpunkte (neben Informationstechnologie und Nano-/Biotechnologie) ist Europa. Um diesen Schwerpunkt zu unterstützen, ist an der Universität eine Gastprofessur geschaffen worden, die jeweils ein Jahr lang einem europäischen Land gewidmet ist. In der Vergangenheit waren das Finnland, die Türkei, Irland, Ungarn, Litauen, die Niederlande und aktuell Griechenland. Für das akademische Jahr 2015/2016 (1.10.2015-30.09.2016) wird Portugal Gastland sein.

Die Gastprofessur ist thematisch nicht festgelegt. Wichtig ist, dass die angebotenen Lehrveranstaltungen portugiesische Themen behandeln, die im europäischen Kontext von Interesse sind, oder aber europäische Themen aus einer portugiesischen Perspektive. Ebenso wichtig ist, dass die berufene Person engagiert ihr Land als eines der europäischen Länder vertritt und dass sie imstande ist, die Studierenden dafür zu begeistern, mehr über Portugal zu erfahren.

Mögliche Spezialgebiete, die von der Gastprofessur abgedeckt werden, können sein:

• Politikwissenschaft
• Geschichte (vor allem neue und neueste Geschichte)
• Kultur- und Literaturwissenschaft
• Kulturanthropologie
• Recht
• Wirtschaftswissenschaft
• Regionalstudien
• Border Studies

Die Unterrichtssprache ist bevorzugt Deutsch. Unterricht in Englisch oder Französisch ist auch denkbar, allerdings mit der Maßgabe, dass auf die Sprachkenntnisse der Studierenden Rücksicht genommen wird.

Die Universität stellt sich eine dynamische Person vor, die ein attraktives Programm für das akademische Jahr 2015/2016 anbieten kann. Weitere Aktivitäten im Zusammenhang mit Portugal (Veranstaltungen zu portugiesischer Kultur usw.) sollten die Gastprofessur begleiten, und es wird erwartet, dass solche Aktivitäten auch von der Gastprofessur angeregt bzw. mit veranstaltet werden.

Das Gehalt für die Gastprofessur richtet sich nach der Besoldungsgruppe W3 (monatliches Bruttogrundgehalt: ca. 5.590 €). Die Lehrverpflichtung beträgt acht Semesterwochenstunden zu je 45 Minuten. Üblicherweise besteht eine Lehrveranstaltung aus zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Unterrichtsstunden, sodass vier Lehrveranstaltungen pro Woche angeboten werden. Die Vorlesungszeit des Wintersemesters 2015/2016 dauert vom 19.10.2015 bis 12.02.2016, die Vorlesungszeit des Sommersemesters 2016 dauert vom 18.04. bis 29.07.2016.

Die Universität strebt nach Maßgabe ihres Gleichstellungsplanes eine Erhöhung des Anteils an Frauen in diesem Aufgabenbereich an und fordert daher Frauen nachdrücklich zur Bewerbung auf.

Founded in 1948 as a European university, Saarland University in Saarbrücken has Europe as one of its focal areas (in addition to Information Technology and Nano/Bio Technology). In order to enhance this specialisation the university introduced the post of visiting European
professor starting with the winter term 2008/2009, a post devoted to a particular European country for the duration of one academic year (October through September). For the academic year 2015/2016 the country to be presented is Portugal.

The post of visiting professor is financed according to German regulations (scale W3: gross salary 5.590 €), the teaching load is eight lessons (45 minutes each) per week. Usually a course is made up of two consecutive lessons, so that four courses will be offered per week. Winter
term 2015/2016 will last from 19 October 2015 to 12 February 2016. The teaching period of the summer term 2016 will last from 18 April until 29 July 2016).

German is the preferred language of instruction. However, teaching in English or French is also possible, provided the professor takes into consideration that English or French are not the native languages of most of the students.

The visiting professor may come from many academic disciplines; however courses should centre on Portuguese topics of interest to Europeans or on European topics from a Portuguese perspective. The professor is expected to act as a kind of “cultural ambassador” of his/her country and should be able to interest the audience to learn more about Portugal.

Possible areas that the visiting professor might be specialised in:

• Political science
• History (especially contemporary history)
• Culture and Literary Studies
• Cultural anthropology
• Law
• Economics
• Area Studies
• Border Studies

The university is interested in a dynamic person that could offer an attractive programme for the academic year 2015/2016. Other activities related to Portugal during the year (e.g. Portuguese cultural events) should accompany the academic programme, and it is hoped that the visiting professor will participate in and/or initiate such activities.
