Das Teilprojekt C01 „Prominence and information structure“ (Leitung: Prof. Dr. Aria Adli) untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen Prominenz und Informationsstruktur, insbesondere (1) die Rolle prominenter syntaktischer Positionen in nicht-kanonischen Wortstellungen und (2) den Wettbewerb zwischen verschiedenen prominenten Topikkandidaten in kanonischen Wortstellungen.

IHRE AUFGABEN
» Organisatorische Unterstützung des Projektleiters, u.a. Koordination des Tagesgeschäfts, fachliche Führung der Projektmitarbeitenden, Task management
»Untersuchung nicht-kanonischer Wortstellungsphänomene (Satzperipherie, postverbale Subjekte, Clefts) korpusgestützt, sprachvergleichend und inferenzstatistisch; Publikation der Forschungsergebnisse
» Modellierung des Zusammenhangs von syntaktischer Prominenz und Informationsstruktur (z.B. regelbasiert vs. probabilistisch)
» Verfeinerung der Annotationsstruktur im mehrsprachigen Korpus gesprochener Spontansprache sgscorpus. com (u.a. Informationsstruktur, Definitheit/Spezifizität) und Anleitung der studentischen Annotatoren

IHR PROFIL
» Promotion in Linguistik
» Einwandfreies Englisch in Wort und Schrift, sehr gute Kenntnisse in Französisch oder Spanisch, Strukturkenntnisse zur korpusbasierten Arbeit in einer weiteren Projektsprache (Französisch, Spanisch, Katalanisch, Persisch)
» Deutschkenntnisse oder die Bereitschaft, sich diese individuell innerhalb der ersten 6 Monate anzueignen
» Durch Publikationen ausgewiesene internationale Forschungserfahrung in Syntax und Informationsstruktur
» Solide Kenntnisse in Korpuslinguistik und quantitativer Analyse von Korpusdaten
» Vollzeitpräsenz an der Universität zu Köln ab Einstellung

Die Stelle ist ab dem 15.04.2018 in Vollzeit zu besetzen. Sie ist bis zum 31.12.2020 befristet. Sofern die entsprechenden tariflichen und persönlichen Voraussetzungen vorliegen, richtet sich die Vergütung nach der Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L.

The project C01 „Prominence and information structure“ (PI: Prof Dr Aria Adli) studies the relation between prominence and information structure, in particular: 1) the role of prominent syntactic positions in non-canonical word order, 2) the competition between various prominent topic candidates in canonical word order.

YOUR TASKS
» coordinate project work, advise other projekt members (PhD and student annotators) and support the PI in project-related day-to-day business
» investigate non-canonical word order phenomena (sentence periphery, postverbal subjects, clefts) using corpus-based, cross-linguistic methods and statistical inference; publication of results
» develop a theoretical model of the interaction of syntactic prominence and information structure (e.g., rule-based vs. probabilistic)
» refine the annotation structure in the multilingual corpus of spontaneous speech sgscorpus.com (incl. information structure, definiteness/specificity) and supervise student annotators

YOUR PROFILE
» PhD in Linguistics
» flawless command of spoken and written English, high proficiency in French or Spanish as well as sufficient structural knowledge to perform corpus-based work in one of the other languages examined in the project (i.e., French, Spanish, Catalan, Persian).
»knowledge of German; candidates without prior knowledge must be willing to gain a good command of the language within the first six months
» international research experience in the field of syntax and information structure, as documented via publications
» sound knowledge of corpus linguistics and quantitative analysis of corpus data
» full-time presence in Cologne upon recruitment

The position is available from the 15. April 2018 on a full-time basis. It is limited to the 31. December 2020. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal quali cations, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
