The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Arts, Department of Romance Studies invites applications for the following professorships:
Full Professorship (W3) in Romance Linguistics (French and Spanish)
to be filled at soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for research and teaching in Romance linguistics (French and Spanish) across the full spectrum of synchronic and diachronic perspectives.

Candidates should carry out research in the core fields of linguistics, have a high interest in empirical language analysis, and willingness to contribute to developing the Faculty’s central themes of language variation and multilingualism. The holder of this position will take on responsibility for French and Spanish linguistics in all of the relevant bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Romance languages, will work with interdepartmental master’s degree programs in linguistics (Foreign-language Linguistics; Linguistics: Communication – Variation – Multilingualism; Applied Cultural Studies and Cultural Semiotics), and will liaise closely with the Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Human Sciences. Commitment to internationalization in teaching and research, especially for the expansion and cultivation of contacts in Romance countries, as well as publications of international significance are required.

Candidates are expected to have basic knowledge of German.

The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical talent, and a particular aptitude for scientific and scholarly work, as is typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
