Aktuelle Ausschreibung der Graduate School Practices of Literature, WWU Münster

Der Fachbereich 09 – Philologie der WWU Münster bietet zum 1. Oktober 2022 Plätze in dem strukturierten literaturwissenschaftlichen Promotionsprogramm der Graduate School Practices of Literature (GSPoL) an. An der GSPoL wird exzellenten Nachwuchswissenschaftler:innen die Möglichkeit geboten, innerhalb von drei Jahren zu promovieren. Die Absolvent:innen werden sowohl auf wissenschaftliche Karrieren als auch auf außerakademische Berufsfelder vorbereitet.

Beteiligte Fächer: Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Arabistik/Islamwissenschaft, Baltistik, Germanistik, Lateinische Philologie, Mittel- und neulateinische Philologie, Niederlandistik, Nordistik, Romanistik (Schwerpunkte: Französisch, Spanisch und Italienisch), Sinologie, Slavistik.

Die individuellen Promotionsthemen werden in einen Rahmen eingebunden, der drei Schwerpunkte umfasst:

1. Literatur, Kultur und Gesellschaft
Gesellschaftsbezug von Literatur und Literatur-/Kulturwissenschaft; Theorien der Gesellschaft; Kulturtheorien; cultural turn und Literaturwissenschaft

2. Theorie(n) der Literatur-/Kulturwissenschaft
Wissenschaftstheorie; Geschichte, Theorie und Methoden der Literatur-/Kulturwissenschaft

3. Literatur-/Kulturwissenschaft und Praxis
berufspraktische Anwendungsfelder literatur-/kulturwissenschaftlichen Wissens; der literarische Markt; literatur-/kulturwissenschaftliche Schlüsselqualifikationen; Verhältnis von literatur-/kulturwissenschaftlicher Theorie, Wissenschaftstheorie und Praxis
Curriculum: Das Curriculum umfasst Vorlesungen/Vortragsreihen und Workshops, Kolloquien, Projektgruppen sowie eine Reihe von Wahlpflichtveranstaltungen (z.B. Praktika, akademische Lehre etc.).

Betreuung: Jede:r Promovierende:r erhält ein individuelles, interdisziplinäres Betreuungspanel, dem drei Mitglieder angehören. Es wird eine schriftliche Betreuungsvereinbarung getroffen und ein individueller Arbeits- und Zeitplan aufgestellt. Die betreuenden Hochschullehrenden leisten gezielte Hilfestellung bei der Bewerbung um Stipendien.

Bewerbungsfrist: Die Bewerbung für eine Aufnahme zum Wintersemester 2022/2023 ist bis zum 31. Mai 2022 möglich.

Bewerbungsunterlagen: Die Bewerbung erfolgt schriftlich (per E-Mail als ein PDF-Dokument) in deutscher oder englischer Sprache. Ihr sind beizufügen:

• Motivationsschreiben/Begründung für die Bewerbung an der GSPoL;
• tabellarischer Lebenslauf (ohne Foto);
• Nachweis über einen einschlägigen Hochschulabschluss (i.d.R. ein literaturwissenschaftlicher Masterabschluss mit der Mindestnote 2,0 oder ein literaturwissenschaftlicher Bachelorabschluss mit der Mindestnote 1,50) gemäß § 5 Abs. 1 der Promotionsordnung der GSPoL;
• Nachweis über Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse sowie ggf. weitere Fremdsprachenkenntnisse gemäß § 5 Abs. 2 der Promotionsordnung der GSPoL;
• ca. halbseitige Skizze (Abstract) der geplanten Dissertation;
• ca. zehnseitiges Exposé der geplanten Dissertation, in dem detailliert zu den Zielen und Inhalten, zur fachlichen Relevanz und zur Methode des Forschungsvorhabens Stellung genommen wird;
• differenzierter Arbeits- und Zeitplan;
• zwei schriftliche Referenzen; sofern das Erststudium der Bewerber:innen eine Regelstudienzeit von weniger als acht Semestern umfasste oder mit einem Bachelorgrad abschloss, ist die Vorlage von drei Referenzen erforderlich.

Call for Applications: Doctoral Program at the Graduate School Practices of Literature, WWU Münster

Start date: October 1, 2022

The Graduate School Practices of Literature (GSPoL) at the University of Münster invites doctoral candidates in literary studies to apply for the winter term 2022/2023. At the GSPoL, you will have the opportunity to complete your doctoral degree within three years and to prepare for a career in academic and non-academic contexts.

Areas of study: English/American Studies, Arabic/Islamic Studies, Baltic Studies, German Studies, Latin Philology/Studies, (Neo )Medieval Latin Studies, Dutch Studies, Scandinavian Studies, Romance Studies (main areas: French, Spanish and Italian Literature), Sinology, and Slavic Studies.

The program comprises three main research areas:

1. Literature, Culture and Society
relationship between literature, culture and society; social theories; cultural theories; cultural turn and/in literary studies

2. Theories of Literature and Culture
science studies; history, theory and methodology in literary/cultural studies

3. Literary/Cultural Studies and the Professional World
professional sectors that require expertise in literary/cultural studies; the literary marketplace; transferable skills

Curriculum: lecture series and workshops, colloquia, research groups, and mandatory electives such as internships, academic teaching, etc.

Supervision: Each doctoral candidate will have an individual interdisciplinary support group consisting of three supervisors. A mentoring agreement and an individual timeline will be established and signed by the PhD candidate and their supervisors. The supervisors will assist the candidate in applying for a scholarship.

Deadlines: Applications are accepted for each winter and summer term. The application deadline for the winter term 2022/2023 is May 31, 2022.

Application Documents: Applications to the GSPoL should be submitted in written form (via email as a single PDF file) in German or English. They include the following:

• letter of motivation stating the reasons for the application to the GSPoL;
• curriculum vitae (without photograph);
• proof that the applicant has completed a GSPoL-related university degree (generally a master’s degree in literary studies with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or a bachelor’s degree in literary studies with a minimum GPA of 1.50) according to § 5 (1) of the GSPoL study regulations;
• proof of German, English and, possibly, additional foreign language skills according to § 5 (2) of the GSPoL study regulations;
• brief (approx. half-page) abstract of the PhD project;
• project proposal of approx. 10 pages in length, which discusses the research aims and methodology as well as the contents, originality and significance of the project;
• detailed timeline;
• two letters of reference; if the applicant holds a bachelor’s degree or has completed a first academic degree with a regular duration of less than eight semesters, three references are required.
