Conference description:

Subjecthood is a complex and much debated term without a universally accepted definition. The existence of expletives, arguably also in null subject languages, the subject-predicate distinction, and the interaction with the topic-comment and focus-background pairs turn the debate into an extremely variegated and highly interesting one. Researchers from different theoretical frameworks will discuss subjects, topics, and foci, covering areas such as pronominal subjects, subject expression, word order, subject placement, and interactions with other linguistic features.
